Over
the anaerobic threshold, lactic acid accumulates in the blood and muscles,
which forces the sportsman to decrease his speed.
One
of the priority objectives of cyclist training is therefore to push back
this threshold to a greater intensity and increase the time of
withstanding it. By doing this, the cyclist can ride more quickly and for
longer without accumulating lactic acid.
There are two types of methods for doing this: the method of intermittent
effort of long duration, and the method of continuous effort. The
intensity of action in both cases is around the anaerobic threshold.
Duration of the action
Duration of active recuperation
Work load
Intermittent effort of long duration
8-15 min
4-8 min
4-8
repetitions
Continuous effort
20-45 min
It
is advisable to undergo a sports-medical test on an exercise bicycle if
you want to target the intensity for the anaerobic threshold as high as
possible.
